It is with profound sorrow that I have learned of the passing of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya and Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). His demise marks the loss of a towering statesman, a relentless defender of human rights, and a passionate advocate for social justice and democratic governance, not only in Kenya but across the African continent.
Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga was a beacon of hope for the oppressed and a tireless champion of constitutional reform. His leadership was instrumental in the birth of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, a milestone in the nation’s democratic journey. He stood firm in his belief in the separation of powers and the integrity of governance institutions.
Beyond national borders, he was a committed Pan-Africanist, deeply engaged in peace-building efforts throughout Africa. His voice resonated in the corridors of justice, equity, and unity, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations.
On behalf of the High Commission of the Republic of Kenya, and in my personal capacity, I extend our deepest condolences to the family of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, to the Government, and to the people of the Republic of Kenya.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his vision for a just and united Kenya live on
Rest in Peace Baba.
Amb. Joash Maangi, MBS
HIGH COMMISSIONER, UGANDA.
