It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the untimely demise of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, E.G.H., Kenya’s former Prime Minister, a Statesman and one of the greatest sons of the soil.
His name will be specially inscribed in Kenya’s history owing to his unwavering struggle for multiparty democracy, the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, realization of devolved governance structures and many more selfless contributions towards a better country.
The fallen Hero was a generational leader whose ideals transcended personal interests, party affiliations or regional sphere, indeed he was a national leader who worked relentlessly in shaping Kenya’s position at the global scene.
In 2013, the late former Premier was instrumental in my political journey, whose party helped me ascend the political space as a Member of Parliament for Igembe Central Constituency. The party values helped me work selflessly to serve the people of Igembe Central and Kenyans at large.
Today, many political and administrative leaders can confidently state His influence in shaping their leadership roles and just like many other Kenyans, we feel the void left by His towering legacy. We draw from the positive lessons impacted by Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga in principled political engagements, advancing national interests, advocating for democracy, peace loving and unity in seeking Kenya’s shared prosperity.
I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, his children Rosemary Odinga, Raila Jnr and Winnie Odinga; the extended Odinga family, the ODM membership and Kenyans at large for this immense loss, on behalf of Kenya Embassy Mogadishu, Kenyan diaspora community in Somalia and the friends of Kenya in the Federal Republic of Somalia.
May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
