My heart is heavy. I'm devastated.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to Mama Idah, Rosemary, Winnie and Raila Jnr.

Baba… My Mentor, My Father, My Hero
Baba, where do I even begin? You and I first met in mid-2000 — I was young, unsure, still trying to find my place in this noisy world of politics. But that one meeting changed everything. You didn’t just take me under your wing; you adopted me. From that day, I became part of your journey — through the good, the bad, the dangerous, and the divine. We walked through fire together, Baba. Political persecution, threats, near-death moments — we faced them head-on. Seche moko nee tek… But you always reminded us: _wuon chieng' onge gi luoro_ — the one who carries the light does not fear the dark.
That courage, that conviction, that calmness in the storm… it shaped me. You were the most compassionate person I have ever known. You never let us drown. When we were down, you stood with us. When we had nothing left, you gave us strength. And when we laughed, you laughed harder than anyone — that deep, hearty laugh that filled a room.
Ah, Baba, the memories… those weekly breakfast meetings and briefs! Every week, we’d sit around that table — coffee strong enough to wake the ancestors — and you’d take us through the state of the nation. And just when we thought we were done, you’d say, “Okay, same time next week!” That was you, Baba — tireless, focused, and always ten steps ahead.
Then there were the impromptu calls. Those 6 a.m. or midnight calls — “Ibbie, Ingima?…….” You never forgot to check on us, even when the world demanded all your time. And how can I forget the jokes we shared after those heated sessions? #WinnieOdinga, #GJ-Jarawila, #DO-Jakadem and i would mimic your gestures, your tone, that famous _“Now, listen…”_ — and we’d laugh till tears rolled down. But behind every joke was love. Deep love and respect for the man who raised us to be firm yet kind.
Baba, the journeys we made together… across continents, across oceans, across time zones! I can still see you at the airports, conference halls, palaces— us darting around to make sure everything was in order, guiding you through security while juggling that famous gym bag! A gym bag not with dumbbells, but stuffed with books, newspapers, and magazines — enough to open a mini-library right there at the lounge! Then came the briefcase, the phone, the passports, the brown winter coat, and the Red stripped scarf you never wore — but we always carried like a national treasure. Hahahaa!
And there you’d be, walking ahead with that calm, dignified stride — statesman-like — while we followed, balancing all your “essentials” like disciplined soldiers on a mission. You’d just turn slightly, give that knowing smile, and say, “Let’s move.” And somehow, Baba, we’d all find strength we didn’t even know we had.
You believed in us so deeply — expected us to be supermen and superwomen, angels who could navigate any airport, any city, in countries whose names we couldn’t even pronounce! Any situation. And somehow, Baba, when you were around, we really became just that. Because with you, even chaos turned into order, and every trip became a masterclass in leadership, grace, and laughter.
And Baba, this one hurts — on the very day you left us, we were supposed to embark on yet another trip. Everything was ready: tickets confirmed, bags packed, itinerary printed. We were just waiting for your call — that familiar, firm, “Let’s move….” . But this time, Baba, you took a different journey. One we couldn’t follow. One with no return flight.
Still, every bit of life spent with you was a doctorate. You taught me more than any school ever could. You allowed me to sit in meetings with presidents, kings, and rulers — yet reminded me that the greatest power lies in serving the ordinary people. You never let us forget who we were or why we started. You saw in us more than we saw in ourselves — and somehow, Baba, with you around, we believed it too.
So now, as I sit here, remembering you, I can only say _erokamano ahinya._ Thank you for every lesson, every breakfast, every flight, every call, every fight, every laugh, every hug. You gave me the gift of purpose. You gave me a second father. You gave me belief.
Rest well, Aluo. Rest knowing you raised a generation that will never forget. Baba, till we meet again….
Farewell, Baba. May your soul rest in eternal peace.

Today, we gather our hearts in deep reflection and gratitude for a man whose name will forever be etched in the soul of our nation — Raila Amolo Odinga.
Raila was more than a leader; he was a vision, a movement, and a symbol of unyielding courage. Through decades of struggle and sacrifice, he stood tall as the voice of the voiceless, the defender of democracy, and the champion of justice. His journey was not for himself but for the generations that would come after — for a Kenya that is free, fair, and united.
He taught us that leadership is not about position or privilege, but about service, conviction, and resilience. Even when misunderstood or opposed, Raila never lost faith in the dream of a better Kenya. He walked through fire so that others could walk in freedom.
Though he now rests, his spirit will continue to guide us. His laughter, wisdom, and unmatched passion for the people will echo through the valleys and hills of this land he so dearly loved. His legacy is not written in monuments, but in the hearts of millions who dared to believe because he dared to fight.
Fare thee well, Baba. The lion may have rested, but his roar will live forever in our hearts. Kenya mourns, yet Kenya also rises — for you showed us how.
Rest in eternal peace, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga — the enigma, the patriot, the people's president.

Dear Baba Raila Amolo Odinga,
As Kenya mourns your passing at 80 on October 15, 2025, we honor you, the indomitable Baba of our democracy. Imprisoned for nine years, you faced tyranny unbowed, forging our 2010 Constitution and uniting a nation.
Five presidential bids showcased your relentless spirit, inspiring millions. As Prime Minister and AU envoy, you built bridges—literal and figurative—championing justice and pluralism. President Ruto called you the "father of our democracy"; we call you our heartbeat.
Your legacy lives in every free vote, every reform, every dream of a better Kenya. Rest in power, Baba. Asanteni sana.
With eternal gratitude,
A Kenyan Heart

Born with the spirit of service and the heart of a true statesman, Raila dedicated his life to the pursuit of a better Kenya — a nation rooted in equality, freedom, and unity. His voice echoed across generations, inspiring millions to believe that change is not only possible but inevitable when guided by conviction and love for one’s people.
Through the trials of imprisonment, political persecution, and countless challenges, Raila stood firm — never bitter, never broken. His struggle was not for personal gain, but for the soul of a nation. He fought so that every Kenyan could have a voice, every child could dream, and every citizen could live with dignity.
He will be remembered not only as a political icon, but as a symbol of endurance — a man who walked with kings yet never lost touch with the common person. His humility, wit, and warmth touched every corner of this land.
Raila Amolo Odinga’s legacy lives on in the hearts of Kenyans — in every democratic stride we take, in every voice that speaks freely, and in every dream that dares to rise above limitation. He taught us that true leadership is service, that patriotism is sacrifice, and that love for one’s country must always overcome hate and division.
As we bid farewell to this great son of Africa, we do not mourn in despair but celebrate a life well-lived — a life of purpose, principle, and passion. His flame will never die; it will continue to guide us toward the Kenya he envisioned — a nation of justice, prosperity, and unity.
Rest well, Baba.
Your footprints will forever mark the path to Kenya’s freedom and progress.

A Tribute to Tinga: The Giraffe Who Saw Far
In the quiet days of my childhood, back in 2001–2002, I remember sitting outside my maternal grandmother’s home, listening to my uncles talk politics. One name stood out—Tinga. That moment planted a seed in me. From then on, I followed him, believed in him, and supported him with my own resources, assets, and heart.
To me, he was more than a politician. He was a giraffe—a man who could see far beyond the horizon. A uniter. A visionary. A leader who never believed that winning was about personal gain. He sacrificed comfort for country, choosing peace when others would have chosen power. He was the man who held Kenya together when it teetered on the edge. He always chose us over himself.
In 2025, when the nation was ready to fight for him, he chose peace once again. That was Tinga. That was Baba. That was the giraffe who saw beyond the moment and into the soul of a nation.
I never met him in person, but I felt his presence in every step I took. He taught me patience, tolerance, and resilience. He showed us how to soldier on, how to love our country, and how to build unity from division.
Even in the 2022 election, he chose to unite the country, joining hands with his own student, His Excellency William Samoei Ruto. That act alone made us feel safe. It reminded us that Kenya is bigger than any one man—and that true leadership is about healing, not hurting.
Now, the man who always put out the fires threatening our nation is no more. And my heart aches. But I know this: we shall never allow anyone to start a fire they cannot put out. Because we carry his legacy. We carry his example.
Rest in peace, Giraffe. You led us well. You loved us deeply. And though we loved you, God loved you more.
We will build this nation in your honor. We will fight for unity, for peace, and for love. You will forever remain in our hearts.
Kosgei KK
Every time political competition put the country at risk, you pulled back. The same wisdom that informed your decisions at critical moments in Kenyan elective politics also informed your decision in 2024 to form BBG with a view to arrest the violence instigated by anarchists driving the so-called Gen Z movement. Some Gen Zs who are ignorant of the big picture may not have forgiven you but God and many Kenyans know you finished your race on the good side of history.
Felix Rutto
Baba Jakom,

A Tribute to Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga: The Tireless Son of the Soil
Kenya mourns today, not merely the passing of a man, but the departure of an era. Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga was more than a political leader, he was a symbol of endurance, vision, and unrelenting hope for justice and equality in our motherland and beyond.
From the dark days of detention without trial to his unbroken fight for multi-party democracy, Raila carried the spirit of liberation deep within his heart. He stood firm when silence was safer, spoke truth when lies were convenient, and bore pain when freedom demanded sacrifice. Through his courage, Kenya found her voice.
Across Africa and the world, Raila Odinga was recognized as a beacon of democracy, a statesman who mediated peace, defended human rights, and called for unity among nations. His mission was never confined to Kenya’s borders; he envisioned an Africa that would rise on the foundation of justice, inclusivity, and progress.
He lived for the ordinary Kenyan, the farmer, the worker, the youth, and the mother struggling to feed her children. His politics were driven not by self-interest, but by a steadfast belief that Kenya deserved better, and that each generation had a duty to build upon the struggles of the past.
As a clinical physicist and researcher, I have drawn immense inspiration from Raila Odinga’s fearless pursuit of transformation. His courage reminds me that change, whether in society or in science, demands persistence and faith. In his honor, I commit to advancing the use of biosensors and artificial intelligence in healthcare — to monitor neuronal activities during treatment, to bring precision and compassion into medicine, and to redefine how we understand and diagnose disease.
Raila Odinga’s life teaches us that true leadership is service, and true immortality lies in the lives we touch and transform.
Rest well, Baba. Your struggle lives in us. Your dream of a freer, fairer, and healthier Kenya endures.

Raila Odinga never sued for defamation — not once. Unlike some of his peers with thin skins and a litigious streak, he took criticism in stride. In a country where politics and the press often collide, Raila stood apart as a leader who understood the value, chaos and necessity of a free media. Newspapers built reputations dissecting his every move — sometimes harshly — yet he never reached for the courts. Instead, he trusted time and truth to vindicate him. For journalists, he was both subject and symbol — proof that real power doesn’t fear the pen. RIP, Jakom.

Tribute to Raila Amolo Odinga — Visionary Leader & Digital Pioneer
Today, we honour Raila Amolo Odinga — not just for his decades of tireless struggle for democracy, equality, and justice in Kenya, but also for his bold vision of what Kenya could become in the digital age.
Raila saw beyond the politics of the moment. He believed that innovation, technology, and financial inclusion should not be privileges, but rights for every Kenyan, especially the youth. Among the many ideas he spoke about was the possibility of Kenya stepping onto the frontlines of the global crypto/digital finance revolution — launching a national digital coin that would empower young entrepreneurs, deepen financial access, and place Kenya among the leaders in the emerging digital economy.
He spoke of this digital coin as more than a currency — as a tool to boost innovation, to create jobs, to strengthen Kenya’s financial systems in a way that is forward-looking.
While plans and details were still emerging, it was unmistakable: Raila wanted Kenya to be bold, innovative, and ready for the future — not left behind. His vision challenged technocrats, government, and society to embrace change, tackle regulations, and ensure young people were part of the digital transformation.
As a nation we have lost a giant; but the ideas he planted — of democracy + technology + inclusive growth — must continue to grow. May his dream of a crypto-friendly, digitally empowered Kenya live on.

*Tribute Speech — “Baba, the Enigma Who Never Gave Up*
Baba, today we stand before you not in mourning alone, but in pride, in gratitude, and in deep reflection.
*You were the true definition of courage, resilience, and patriotism* . You carried the pain of this nation in your heart and bore its hopes on your shoulders. You never sold out. *You never gave up.*
Baba, some of those who betrayed you are here today. We see them.
They called you names when you stood for truth. *They mocked you when you spoke for justice. But today, they cry the loudest pretending to honour you in death when they disowned you in life.*
Baba, we remember those who turned their backs when you were detained, those who grew silent when you were humiliated, and those who stood by as your vision was ridiculed. They now want to be seen mourning you. Yet we, your true children, the ones who believed in your dream even when it was costly, know who truly walked with you through the fire.
*We are not here to bury you, Baba. We are here to thank you.* Thank you for your sacrifices. Thank you for showing us what it means to love your country more than yourself. Thank you for teaching us that leadership is not about power it is about service, sacrifice, and faith.
Baba, tell Jaramogi Oginga Odinga that his son carried the torch with honour.
Tell Kenneth Matiba that the struggle continues.
Tell Wangari Maathai that we are still fighting for a just, united, and green Kenya.
Tell Dedan Kimathi that the spirit of freedom is alive because of you.
Baba, we are hurting, but we are also awakening.
We know you did not leave us defeated you left us determined.
You taught us that justice delayed is not justice denied, and that truth, no matter how long it takes, will always prevail.
To those in power today do not come here to seek political cover. *Do not quote Baba’s name and ignore his message.* Do not celebrate his courage while betraying his cause. If you truly honour Raila Amolo Odinga, then live his values: justice, equality, and unity.
*Baba, give us a sign. Should we still believe in those who betrayed your struggle* ? Should we still walk in a system that despised your truth?
Tell us, Baba, which way to go because we are not sure anymore.
*But one thing is certain: we will not let your dream die. Your struggle was not in vain.* Your spirit lives in the fearless youth of Kenya in every boy and girl who refuses to bow to oppression, in every voice that speaks for justice, in every heart that still believes in the promise of this land.
Rest in power, Raila Amolo Odinga Baba, the Enigma. You will never die, because your spirit lives among the brave. Your dream of a free, fair, and united Kenya will outlive every betrayal, every lie, and every storm.
*You showed us the way to the Promised Land and we will finish the journey.*

Raila Odinga, the man who defined democracy, free speech and liberalism for Kenya. Forever engraved in Kenya’s history. Rest in eternal peace
Kelvin Njeru
Raila Amollo Odinga was not just a man, he was a fire that refused to go out even when storms tried to drown him. His journey was one of sacrifice courage and unshakable belief in the promise of Kenya. He walked through prisons betrayals and ballots not for fame, but for freedom. He stood when others bowed, spoke when silence was safe, and carried the weight of a nation’s hope through decades of pain and perseverance. To the young generation, he was proof that conviction is not comfort, it is a burden carried by those who love their country enough to suffer for it.
Raila’s story teaches us that true leadership is not measured by power, but by endurance. That even when they take your victory, they cannot take your voice. He showed us that faith in justice is not naïve it is necessary. His scars are the price of our democracy, his voice the echo of generations who refused to give up. And through his defiance, he taught us that even in defeat one can remain undefeated. Baba stood not for himself, but for a Kenya that believed in fairness, dignity, and truth a Kenya that still lives in the dreams of its youth.
Today, we do not mourn him, we rise because of him. We carry his torch not as mourners, but as witnesses to a spirit that cannot die. He will live in every young person who chooses courage over fear, integrity over convenience, and purpose over comfort. Raila Odinga may rest, but his vision marches on in classrooms, in protests, in every voice that whispers, “Kenya can be better.” He was, and will forever remain, the flame that refused to die, the father of belief, the conscience of our nation, and the voice that taught generations how to stand for what they believe in.

Grief is not a disorder, a disease or a sign of weakness. It is an emotional, physical and spiritual necessity, the price you pay for love. The only cure for grief is to grieve. Today I choose not to mourn the death Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga but to celebrate his works, sacrifices, tears, sweat, blood and contributions to our motherland. Am now old enough to understand why the great man was loved and loathed in equal measure. Those who loved me had him in their hearts and those who loathed him had him in their minds. Perhaps my biggest regret is not voting for him even once when he offered himself for leadership.
Reggae might have stopped but the lyrics will keep lingering on.

I never met you, Baba,

May our sovereign Lord enjoy your presence in His dwelling, Baba Raila Odinga, till we meet again, at Jesus's feet. There will only be one Raila Odinga, anointed by God to do what you do for God's people. Thank you for your leadership and counsel to millions, like me, who you never got to meet in person, yet in some spirited way you did. Thank you for putting together many broken pieces of our country Kenya, and for your efforts toward a united Africa. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer, that we may keep the spirit and intentions of Raila Odinga alive. Cheers to Agwambo. Hallelujah to Jesus. Peace be with you, Raila.

**Tribute to Raila Odinga**
It is with a heavy heart that I pen this tribute to honor the legacy of Raila Odinga, a titan of Kenyan politics, a champion of democracy, and an unwavering advocate for the marginalized. As we mourn his passing, we are reminded of his enduring commitment to the fight for justice, equality, and the empowerment of the Kenyan people.
Raila was not just a political leader; he was a visionary who dared to dream of a better Kenya for all. His journey through the tumultuous landscape of our nation’s politics was marked by tenacity, resilience, and an unrelenting pursuit of truth. From his early days in the struggle for democracy to his role as Prime Minister, Raila’s name became synonymous with hope for many.
He inspired countless individuals to stand up and speak out against injustice, reminding us that real change often comes at a cost. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those he touched, a testament to his belief that every voice matters in the tapestry of our democracy.
As we bid farewell to a leader who dedicated his life to the service of our nation, let us carry forward his vision of unity, inclusivity, and progress. May Raila Odinga rest in peace, knowing that his contributions will continue to inspire generations to come.
Yours sincerely,
Julius Mbugua aka Babake Willie

My earliest memories of Rao are the rumors that surrounded his persona. That he was a man who thrived in crisis.. disliked order…responsible for the 1982 coup. A man who would take revenge on the Kikuyu if he became President. A man so chaotic, his own father had cursed him. And then the 2007 post election violence happened. On a ride to assess the extent of damage in the Rift, I heard that he shed tears. When he went to see those affected by PEV in a hospital in Kibra, he looked visibly disturbed. The image I had of the man began to crack. And then he signed the National Accord with Kibaki. A pact that gave him no real power but ended the PEV. I was floored. I remember the “nusu mkeka” mockery that ensued.
In the years that followed, I watched the man fight for every social welfare cover we have in this country.. free education, healthcare, housing , devolution.. free speech. I watched the mockery he endured everytime he lost an election. And then I watched him sign a pact with President Ruto after the Gen Z protests. I was royally miffed. I watched him run for the AU Chairpersonship. I watched him lose. I witnessed the mockery he endured. He was reminded again of his Father’s curse. He was indefatigable. And then one evening, I had the pleasure of actually meeting him and discussing education with him. He was critical of the new higher education funding model.. and shocked that I thought it was not a bad idea. He listened…really listened and then asked me to talk to Joe Ager. It was other worldly for me.. And and then he gave a history lesson 🙂.
I remember leaving with a lot on my mind. This man was jovial on the very day an article on the famous curse was written. He still thought of Kenyans even when the insults flew hard and fast. And then I had an epiphany. Rao was his father’s dream personified.
We have watched him negotiate with power and co-rule with three duly elected Presidents. We have watched Rao close down an airport because he was coming home. We watched him be sworn in as the people’s President. We have watched him pull Kenya from the brink a couple of times. We are watching an entire continent mourn with us..yet he didn’t win the Chairperson’s seat. This is a man who understood the game of thrones, a man who played the games of power, embraced them. personified them, and yet still, spoke up for we people.
He was a colossus.. And I think it is safe to say, that as a country, we are actually mourning Kenya’s longest serving President.
So, dear Raila, son of Jaramogi, eminent son of Luo Nyanza, the enigma of Kenya’s politics, go well. Stride into the hereafter with pride. Tell them we have given you a state funeral. That our flags fly at half mast for you. That the world knows your name. That we have suspended all activity to mourn you, the People’s President, our longest serving de-facto co-President. Our Jakom. Tell your father you were his greatest son. That you did him proud. That you were the embodiment of all his dreams. I imagine he will hug you because he has seen everything you became. In the everlasting words of JRR Tolkien, “you now go to your father, in whose mighty company you shall not now feel ashamed.”
The King is dead. Long live his legacy.

My generation didn't always agree with him, but we all recognized this: Raila Odinga never quit. Not when quitting made sense. Not when winning seemed impossible. Tribute from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST)
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology joins the nation in paying tribute to one of Kenya’s most distinguished statesmen, the late Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga whose passing away in India marks the end of an era in our nation’s political and social history. Over time, Raila became associated with courage, resilience, and a commitment to the ideals of freedom, equity, and progress that continue to shape our Republic.
Born in Maseno in 1945, Raila Odinga was the son of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President and the icon our University was named after. This is why we at JOOUST feel a deep connection to his legacy, which emphasizes education, social justice, and national change. From his youth, Raila embodied the values of education, integrity, and service to humanity. He began his education at Maranda and was later to join the prestigious Magdeburg Technical University in Germany where he graduated with a Diplom (Master of Science degree) in Mechanical Engineering in 1970. Returning home, he excelled as an engineer and lectured at the University of Nairobi. His work as an engineer, both at university and beyond, reflected his lifelong belief in building not only infrastructure and industry, but also communities and institutions that empower people and strengthen nations.
Raila Odinga’s journey from technocrat to reformist was driven by conviction and bravery. As a key figure in Kenya’s second liberation, he faced imprisonment, exile, and political persecution under a one-party system but never wavered in his fight for a freer democratic Kenya. His sacrifices, including years spent in detention without trial, inspired many and helped bring back multi-party democracy in the early 1990s. Through the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and other reform efforts, he embodied justice and inclusion, consistently challenging inequality and envisioning a Kenya where every citizen can live with dignity.
Raila Odinga demonstrated remarkable leadership in public office, particularly during his tenure as Kenya’s second Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 when he served in the Grand Coalition Government with President Mwai Kibaki. He gained the admirable reputation of sacrificing his ambitions for the national good during periods of intense national division. His vision for Kenya led to significant governance reforms, infrastructure improvements, and the historic promulgation of the 2010 Constitution, which culminated in reshaping Kenya’s governance, devolution, and commitment to social justice.
Beyond the Kenyan space, Raila Odinga was a celebrated Pan-Africanist. As the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, he advocated for continental integration and sustainable development. He consistently pushed for a united Africa, rooted in mutual respect and shared prosperity, particularly during his campaign for African Union Chairmanship. His eloquence, intellect, and unwavering defense of African dignity earned him regional and worldwide admiration.
To millions in Kenya and beyond, Raila Odinga, affectionately known as “Baba,” was more than just a political leader. He symbolized hope, fortitude, and national unity. His humility, charisma, and compassion for ordinary citizens attracted people from all backgrounds and communities of Kenya. Whether speaking with students and youth, addressing a rally anywhere in Kenya, or presenting on the global stage, Raila communicated a vision of unity, fairness, and shared purpose that continues to motivate generations.
At Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, we honor Raila Odinga not only as a leading political figure but also as a man of knowledge and ideas. His belief in education as a key to empowerment aligns perfectly with our mission to nurture innovation, critical thinking, and transformative leadership. He embodied the spirit of service, believing that knowledge should lead to action and that true leadership is measured by its impact on people’s lives.
As Kenya lowers its flags and remembers his tremendous contributions, we, the JOOUST community, reflect on a son of Siaya, a visionary for Kenya, and a statesman of Africa. As is the case with all humans, his life had its challenges, but he held fast to his principles: dialogue over division, vision over revenge, and justice over convenience. He dreamed of a Kenya at peace with itself, thriving in diversity, and leading Africa toward a brighter future.
A special mention must be made of Raila Odinga’s strong support for education and development that greatly impacted our university and community. His generosity, vision, and commitment to helping future generations built a solid foundation for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. His contributions—from donating the Achiego Community land that now houses our tuition facilities, to permitting us to use his father's notable name, to securing resources that revived halted projects—are testimony to his lifelong belief in the power of knowledge. By presiding over the launch of the Nuclear Energy and Power Feasibility Project in Siaya County and committing to create the Department of Geology and Mining at our University, he demonstrated lasting faith in science, innovation, and the vast potential of young minds. The JOOUST community will always honour the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga as a true friend of education, a forward-thinking leader, and a source of hope whose legacy will inspire future generations.
We mourn deeply but proudly, for in Raila Amolo Odinga, we saw the embodiment of our nation’s struggle and spirit - he always sought to build bridges, working towards a Kenya for all in its diversity. He ushered everyone into a broad-based government to guarantee peace and inclusion. May his legacy of courage, sacrifice, and hope continue to guide our nation and inspire generations to come.
Rest in eternal peace BABA. Your light will forever shine across this Republic; at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, your name will always be honored among those who dared to dream and transform Kenya.

First, I learned about your passion for change from my late Uncle, Kennedy Wanjala Wafula, who was an ardent follower and was with you in KICC in 2007 while counting the votes. Before that, I became your ardent follower in 2003 when you came to Burry Kijana Wamalwa in Western Kenya. We didn't have a TV, so I travelled for 5 kilometres to watch you at the funeral of Wamalwa. Also, with my uncle, we counted the 2002 Election votes from our notebooks, and we actively participated in that process, knowing that you had endorsed Kibaki.
Now that you have gone, your spirit lives in me, and I will seek justice in every angle of my life

Jacom was more than a leader — he was an inspiration, a symbol of hope, and the voice of courage.
I grew up hearing his name, watching him stand firm when others bowed, and speak truth even when it cost him everything.
He was never a president, yet somehow, he carried himself like one.
He commanded respect without power, love without position, and loyalty without title.
Even those who disagreed with him could never ignore him.
Jakom went through mockery, persecution, jail, and betrayal, yet he never stopped believing in Kenya.
He carried our dreams, our pain, and our hopes — always with a smile and a stubborn belief that freedom was worth fighting for.
Now that he’s gone, the whole nation mourns.
He is being laid to rest like a president — not because of what he held, but because of what he gave.
He gave his life to the struggle for justice, democracy, and dignity.
Jakom was proof that true greatness doesn’t come from power, but from purpose.
He taught us that you can lose every election, yet still win the heart of a nation.
Rest well, Baba.
Your journey was not in vain.
Kenya will remember your courage, your sacrifice, and your unbreakable spirit.
You were never just a man — you were a movement.

Today, we mourn the passing of a true son of Kenya — a man whose life was defined by courage, resilience, and unwavering love for his country. The late Raila Amolo Odinga was more than a political leader; he was a symbol of hope, a voice for the voiceless, and a pillar of democracy.
Through decades of struggle, he stood firm for justice, equality, and the rights of every Kenyan. He endured personal sacrifice, persecution, and hardship, yet his spirit never wavered. His dream was not for himself, but for a better Kenya — united, free, and prosperous.

A Tribute to The Icon: Hon. Raila Odinga
To honour Raila Odinga is to tell a story not just of a man, but of a nation's struggle, hope, and relentless pursuit of change. He is more than a politician; he is an institution, a symbol, and a force of nature woven into the very fabric of Kenya.
For decades, your name, "Agwambo," "Tinga," "Jakom," has been a rallying cry for millions. It has echoed in the halls of power, resonated in the streets during the fight for multi-party democracy, and whispered in the hearts of those who dared to believe in a different Kenya. Your journey is a testament to unwavering courage—forged in the crucible of detention and political persecution, yet never broken.
You are the "Enigma," a strategist whose political moves are as profound as they are unpredictable. You have been the pillar of the opposition, the conscience of the nation, and a formidable contender in the highest offices. Your campaigns were not merely about elections; they were national conversations about equity, justice, and the promise of a truly united Kenya.
Yet, your legacy transcends the political arena. You are a patriot who, in the spirit of national healing, extended a hand of reconciliation, most notably in the grand coalition government of 2008. This act, though debated, underscored a profound truth: that your ultimate commitment is to the stability and unity of Kenya above all else.
As a champion of the people, you gave voice to the voiceless. You stood for the common man, challenging systems of oppression and advocating for a more inclusive democracy where every Kenyan has a stake. Your belief in devolution and a new constitutional order has indelibly shaped the governance of our nation.
Hon. Raila Odinga, your story is one of immense resilience, profound sacrifice, and an undying fire for justice. You have carried the torch of your father's legacy while blazing a trail that is uniquely your own. You have taught us to dream with defiance, to fight with principle, and to never surrender in the face of adversity.
For your sacrifices, your vision, and your indomitable spirit, a grateful nation says "Asante." Your place in the annals of Kenyan history is not just secure; it is legendary.
You are, and will always be, our PEOPLE'S PRESIDENT.
Long Live The Icon! Long Live Baba!

Raila is the only presidential candidate I have ever voted for.May he rest in peace.Shalom.

Fare thee well, Jakom.
Your made an indelible mark in the walls of History.
You changed the course of the rivers several times, we never looked at River nile the same again.
Wingu limetanda, you told us, and the clouds were never the same again, even as we look at them right now.
Canaan became a destiny of hope, in which we still strive towards to date
Music got a better and greater meaning, even when your voice would just bleat, out of the struggles you endured.
Dancing on one great leg, and the other bending with the weight of hope of a nation that you carried, you entertained us with your not so rhythmic moves, but we enjoyed and danced with you.
You had a vision for a better Kenya, Singapore being the first stop..We fight on Anyway, knowing that visions are there to be met.
Finally, you assured us that death was inevitable, and we needed not fear it. Only that we didn't think those words would make sense through you, but through other imagined persons.
As we bid you good bye, and say that you have reached the Sunset of your life, whenever we look at the skies in the tropical evenings, be rest assured that Sunsets won't be the same again.
Fare Thee Well Wuod Nyar Alego, just like I am the son of a Nyar Alego

Son of the soil, a warrior of democracy, and a beacon of resilience — Raila Amolo Odinga’s name will forever be etched in the heart of our nation. He lived not for himself, but for the dream of a just, united, and prosperous Kenya. Through seasons of struggle and triumph, he stood tall — fearless in conviction, unyielding in purpose, and unwavering in his belief that Kenya belongs to all.
Baba, your voice stirred hope, your courage inspired generations, and your legacy will continue to light the path of freedom and justice for years to come.
Rest in peace, the people’s servant. Your journey ends, but your dream lives on.

My dear compatriots, my fellow Kenyans,
If you are reading this, my watch has ended. Do not mourn me as a fallen soldier; remember me as one who ran his leg of the race and passed you the baton. The road was long and rough, but my love for you—and for Kenya—never wavered.
I lived for an idea: Kenya. A nation where the son of a peasant and the son of a president share the same table—not by favour, but by right. Our names, our languages, our customs are not walls; they are threads of one flag. Reject the poison of tribalism. Let us be known not by where we come from, but by what we build together.
Hold fast to unity and honesty. Peace is not weakness; it is discipline. Integrity is not a speech; it is a daily habit. Our institutions must be stronger than any individual. The rule of law is our shield; keep it polished. When the contest ends, shake hands. Competition without contempt—this is how a republic grows.
Now, roll up your sleeves. Harambee is a covenant, not a slogan. Build enterprises that pay fairly. Farm smarter. Teach boldly. Heal with dignity. Fix what is broken and lift who has fallen. Carry a white handkerchief in your pocket—let it remind you to choose peace in the street and online.
To the youth: you are Kenya’s renewable energy. Be curious. Be courageous. Be compassionate. Demand more from your leaders and more from yourselves. Code. Create. Till the soil with science. Refuse the smallness of cynicism.
To the women of Kenya: your strength has ferried this nation across deep waters. Walk through every open door—and widen the next one. Where you rise, Kenya stands taller.
To those who opposed me: I respected you. Democracy needs principled rivals and steady hands. Keep the debate sharp and the nation whole.
And to Africa, our motherland: we are Africans first. Trade more with each other than with pity. Let our borders be bridges for talent and enterprise. Silence the guns. Amplify the classrooms, the labs, the studios. Let the African lion roar—of peace, of innovation, of shared prosperity. To the wider world: meet Africa as an equal partner—no charity of dignity, only fairness.
My voice may fall silent, but my faith in you does not. Plant trees whose shade you may never sit under. Mentor a child not your own. Pay a debt you could ignore. Tell the truth when a lie would be easier. One people. One dream. One destiny.
Tuko pamoja—yesterday, today, and in the bright morning still to come. God bless Kenya. God bless Africa.
— Baba

Dear Baba,
Thank you for your selfless leadership, great contribution to Kenya's second liberation, and your values as a family man.
Your spirit will always be with us.
Mr T.
Maurice Osewe
Raila's leadership has never been about a cult of personality; it has been about building coalitions big enough to hold our differences. At moments when the country felt on the verge of breaking, he chose the path that held Kenya together. He has modeled a politics that listens across regions and generations, treating disagreement as a resource rather than a threat, and keeping faith with the ordinary citizen even when the winds of power shift.
His vision has always been practical and bold at once: a Kenya where economic dignity is not a privilege, where youth can turn their talents into a livelihood, where devolution works for the smallest ward as much as for the largest city, and where public institutions serve with integrity. His blueprints for growth, social protection, infrastructure, and inclusive governance have consistently prioritized people over headlines and long-term nation-building over short-term gain.
What sets him apart is endurance with purpose. He has known defeat and refused to succumb to bitterness. He has known defeat and worn it with humility. He has taken risks that have cooled political temperatures and opened space for reform, even when that meant incurring personal costs. In a country too often tempted by cynicism, he has remained stubbornly hopeful about Kenya’s capacity to do hard things together.
For me, and for many, he is proof that courage and nuance can share the same sentence. He has shaped my political enthusiasm and dreams, not by promising miracles, but by insisting on hard work: organizing communities, defending the Constitution, building bridges where there were none, and never confusing power with purpose.
Kevin Omulah
Indeed, Raila has been a true statesman.
A father not just to his children but to the entire country.
His legacy remains unerased for it is contagious and tangible. From the the fight of democracy to the promulgation of the 2010 constitution with devolution at the centre of it. Through this, the common citizen has received services at the door step.
A lover of justice, freedom of expression and creativity, he has been.
May he rest well
George Oyoo
